How to: Restore the original setting for workbooks and new sheets.
Solution:
Remove the following files from the XLSTART folder or from the Alternate Startup File Location: BOOK.XLT, SHEET.XLT, DIALOG.XLT, MACRO.XLT.
1) Open 'Windows Explorer':
a) Click Windows 'Start'.

b) Select 'Programs' from the menu. (A submenu opens.)
c) Select 'Windows Explorer' from the submenu. (The Exploring window appears.)
2) Open the XLSTART folder:
a) (Optional) Select the drive where Microsoft Office is installed from the 'All Folders' list box. (All the folders within the drive appear under the drive label.)
NOTE: By default, all folders in the hard drive, typically Drive C, are displayed in the 'All Folders' list box.
b) Select (double-click on) the Microsoft Office folder from the 'All Folders' list box.
c) Select (double-click on) the Excel folder under the Microsoft Office folder.
d) Select (click on) the XLSTART folder under the Excel folder.
3) Select any files named 'BOOK.XLT', 'SHEET.XLT', 'DIALOG.XLT', and 'MACRO.XLT' from the 'Contents' list box.
NOTE: To select multiple files simultaneously, press CTRL while clicking on each of the files.
4) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Delete'. (The Confirm File Deletion dialog box appears.)
5) Click 'Yes' to confirm the deletion.
6) Open the folder specified in the 'Alternate Startup File Location' box in the 'Options' dialog box.
a) Check the specified location:
1] Click 'Microsoft Excel' on the taskbar to switch to Excel.
2] Select the 'Tools' menu and select 'Options...'. (The Options dialog box appears.)
3] Click 'General' Tab to see the location.

b) Open the specified folder:
1] Click 'Exploring' to switch to Windows Explorer.
2] Select (click on) the folder specified.
7) Repeat steps 3) to 5) to delete any files named 'BOOK.XLT', 'SHEET.XLT', 'DIALOG.XLT', and 'MACRO.XLT' in that folder.
